Research Ethics in Indigenous Studies
November 21st, 2024
The aim of the Webinar was to explore the critical issue of research ethics in studies involving Indigenous peoples, with a focus on promoting respectful, inclusive, and collaborative approaches. Panelists discussed approaches to decolonial research methodology and examined how indigenous knowledge can be integrated into different types of research. Ultimately, the discussion aimed to revise actionable rules and guidelines for conducting ethical research that respects Indigenous rights, fosters equitable partnerships, and builds a foundation of ethical practice for the next generation of researchers.
This Webinar was co-organized by the Arctic Centre, University of Groningen.

Cultural Revitalization through Arctic Arts

This Webinar looked at how arts are used to revitalize culture.
The session aimed to inspire youth to pursue arts and traditional creative practices to become a new generation of cultural leaders. Speakers shared their own projects, lessons learned and reflected on culture revitalization through Arctic arts.

Circumpolar Biodiversity and Traditional Stewardship

This Webinar explored the biodiversity of Arctic flora and fauna as well as traditional conservation and land-use practices through youth perspectives.
The session showcased the Arctic as a flourishing environment and aims to provide an understanding of the vital human dimension of Arctic conservation.

Stories through Photography and Filmmaking

The aim of the Webinar was to examine how youth use photography and film-making to share Arctic voices with global audiences.
The session showcased the work of creatives raising awareness for the changing Arctic through their media and inspiring Arctic youth to carve their own paths in storytelling.

Youth Leadership in Arctic Governance

This Webinar showcased the pathways youth have taken to be involved in national and international Arctic governance.
The session welcomed speakers from the emerging Arctic Indigenous Youth Council and aimed to promote international alignment on youth agendas to collectively bring their perspectives to international fora and decision-makers.

Wellness, Strength, and Balance in a changing North

The aim of the Webinar was to explore initiatives and best practices that youth can take to improve their mental health. These include day-to-day activities that contribute to healthy lifestyles as well as recommended steps to access care in their respective regions.
Our speakers showcased successful youth-centric initiatives that will reduce mental health stigma and provide wellbeing resources in circumpolar communities.
