AYN is welcoming Mitchell Sallis as our new Lead of the AIP!

Residing in the Yukon, Canada, Mitchell supports educational equity initiatives as an experiential educator. He has led youth expeditions with National Geographic across much of the circumpolar world, as well as in Fiji and Nepal, working to bridge international youth with Indigenous voices. Mitchell holds a Master’s in Polar Law from the University of Akureyri, Iceland, where he focused particularly on Arctic Indigenous rights.
His inspiration stems from his extensive work with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Canada’s remote regions, co-developing and co-facilitating educational programs grounded in local knowledge systems.
Mitchell’s engagement with Arctic youth is grounded in a commitment to creating spaces where Indigenous knowledge and leadership drives change.
In his role as the Lead of the AIP, he is excited to advance Indigenous youth-led initiatives that center transparency, equity in educational opportunity, shared leadership, and community collaboration. Driven by a belief in the power of education as a tool for collective action, he is dedicated to making complex Arctic issues more accessible and relevant to the next generation of leaders.
