“Decolonising Environmental Legal Studies” Webinar
On February 26th, AURORA Alumni Network and Arctic Youth Network invited everyone to an exciting webinar about decolonising environmental legal studies!
About the Webinar:
„As environmental law students, we dive deep into topics surrounding environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Yet, we recognize significant gaps in our education which often overlook Indigenous and non-white perspectives on issues like ‚green colonialism’ and ‚environmental and climate justice’.“
Our aim with this event was to draw attention to this problem and explore together why these gaps exist and how we can address them.
Together with our speakers and participants, we critically examined how we, as future environmental advocates, can push for the inclusion of diverse perspectives in our curriculum, demand institutional changes, and learn how to apply ethical and inclusive research practices, such as decolonial methodologies.
When: 26th of February, 4PM EET Zone (1,5h)
Where: Online (Zoom)
Our Speakers
Varvara Korkina Williams
Kumandin Indigenous scholar from Altai, Project Manager and Arctic Innovation Fellow at the Institute of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College, former Director of the Center for Indigenous Culture in Russia & Co-Chair of the International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP) IV Research Priority Team 3
